How Spinal Decompression Works
Spinal decompression is a very successful treatment our chiropractor offers for pain relief. It stretches your spine gently using a specialized traction table.
During a decompression session, you are on the table with a harness around your hips that attaches to the other end of the table, which is closest to your feet.
As we activate the table, the lower section slides back and forth slowly. This gradually lengthens your spine and helps relieve pressure.
When you're on the table, it will feel like your spine is being stretched and then relaxed. Then stretched and relaxed again, and so on.
The way the decompression table stretches your back creates a reverse vacuum, which draws any disc material that may be protruding back to its original position. As your spine is stretched and negative pressure is being applied to the affected discs, blood flow increases, which sends nutrients and oxygen into the affected area.
As all of this is happening, it also promotes cell renewal and tissue repair. This inevitably leads to less pain and improved mobility and range of motion. We use spinal decompression as a valuable healing tool on its own or in combination with other chiropractic care treatments for non-surgical pain relief.
